Behavioral Science:

Our behavioral science curriculum is woven into all of our rotations and experiences.  It is also highlighted twice monthly at didactics, led by our faculty psychiatrist.  Presentations alternate between case presentations with discussion and didactic style teaching. Additionally, regular balint sessions are held which involve all available residents and faculty members and involve discussions of challenging patients, difficult situations and emotional reactions.

Once yearly, each year of residents has a protected 2-4 week block with their classmates when they are on the Behavioral Science rotation together.  This allows each resident class to bond as well as delve into behavioral science topics which are central to the practice of Family Medicine.  Residents also receive one-on-one direct coaching from a behavioral scientist to support them in therapeutic & motivational interviewing as well as general counseling skills.
