Cherry Hill Training Site

Swedish Family Medicine Cherry Hill is an innovative family healthcare center with the mission of providing quality care to indigent patients. A hospital-based primary care center, it was first established in 1974, with a clientele consisting mostly of the urban poor of central Seattle.  The clinic serves patients from all over Seattle, as well as from adjoining counties but continued to be rooted in its diverse and historic neighborhood.

The Cherry Hill clinic population is the most diverse of our training sites.  There are more than 30 languages regularly spoken in our clinic with the most common being Spanish, Amharic, Tigringna, Oromo, Somali, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Tagalog.  The English speaking population we serve is also exceptionally diverse: about 30% of our patients self-identify as African American, 30% as white, and the remainder are divided among many different ethnicities.

Swedish Family Medicine is part of Swedish Medical Center – the largest, most comprehensive health-care system in the Pacific Northwest. As part of this larger organization, our indigent patients benefit from increased access to services, imaging and specialists.  The Cherry Hill training site accepts four residents in each year of training.

Highlights of the clinic include:
Commitment to attaining NCQA certification as an NCQA certified Patient Centered Medical Home.

As a resident-driven clinic, the Cherry Hill Training Site is continually changing to serve the needs of both its patients, the community, and the residents.  Residents have been instrumental in bringing many new and exciting programs to clinic.  This strong resident presence in clinic results in great learning experiences around practice management, managing patient panels, quality improvement, Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, and offers a multitude of leadership opportunities.

As the primary clinic for most of the residency's core faculty, this clinic also highlights many of the special expertise and training of our faculty.  Some of these on-site specialty offerings include:

  • Centering pregnancy group visits
  • Integrative medicine clinic
  • Sports Medicine clinic
  • Mind-Body group visits
  • Procedure clinic including colposcopy & LEEP
  • Psychiatry clinic
  • Miscarriage management

The Cherry Hill Training Site also has numerous unique services available on site for the patients we serve.  This also furthers the training of our residents who rotate through these clinics and are able to learn directly from these providers.  Additionally, housing these priceless offerings on site reduces barriers and expands access to this vulnerable population.  Some highlights include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Cooking Matters classes
  • Lactation consultant

  • OB Outreach clinic serving women with opiate dependence and/or substance abuse during pregnancy
